The Passion,
the Challenge,
the Journey

The Chicago Airport System, the Federal Aviation Administration, and Women in Aviation, International invite you to share in the passions, challenges and journeys of these women. As Gothe states, "Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it - boldness has genius, power and magic in it."

Amelia Earhart's words still encourage us - "Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release from little things, knows not the livid loneliness of fear." Fear is an emotion, a feeling of danger - it is not a reason to quit.

Mary Myers, Aida de Costa, Harriet Quimby, Katherine Cheung, Bobbi Trout, Amelia Earhart, Beryl Markham, Amy Johnson, Jacqueline Cochran, Ann Baumgartner, the "Night Witches," Bonnie Tiburzi, the women featured here and so many others, had the mettle to excel. Strength comes from within to support us on our journey.

Janet Harmon compared herself to a bumblebee - "an insect who on paper is aerodynamically incapable of flying, but in reality flies merrily along." Society may have placed limitations on women but like the bumblebee, they never let it stop them from completing their course to the stars.
