Ms. Buckingham, is a 14-year veteran of the Space Shuttle Program. She initially worked as a mechanical and electrical technician and later as a lead quality control inspector.
She was the first female Spacecraft Operator (SCO) or "grounded astronaut" at Kennedy Space Center. As SCO, she performed systems tests and checkout from the cockpit of the Orbiter between launches.
In addition to her maintenance ratings, A & P, IA, she received an associate degree and earned an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with flight instructor ratings in fixed and rotor wing. She is currently pursuing a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
